Old CPR building offers unique opportunity

On April 7 the Provincial Capital Commission will decide on a new tenant for the most recognizable building in the Inner Harbour: the former CPR terminal building.

There are a number of potential tenants. By far the most attractive is the B.C. Maritime Museum now located in Bastion Square.

The relocation of the museum’s treasure trove of exhibits, historical displays, models and artifacts to a user-friendly space in the heart of the harbour would give Victoria a wonderful new tourist attraction.  Halifax has a similar museum on the waterfront and it is a perennial favourite with locals and tourists.

It would be a powerful complement to the nearby Royal B.C. Museum and would add much to the attractiveness of the harbour.

This is an opportunity not to missed. Let’s not squander it on another Crystal Gardens fiasco.
