Old Yale Road should not be used as a bypass for traffic

Too many people use Old Yale Road as a bypass route. It should be closed to all but local traffic.

Editor: How selfish are some people around here? Does Randall Bowcott (The Times, June 19) have that little time on his hands, that he can’t just use Fraser Highway, which was repaved to relieve traffic from Old Yale Road?

My idea would be to get rid of the traffic light at Old Yale and Fraser and block access from one side, so only the locals can use the road. This was after all the original plan, but some people were hot under the collar, as they wouldn’t be allowed to use their shortcut anymore, so the light went in.

It’s also of note that people who use Old Yale excessively wore out Old Yale. Old Yale is not meant to be a bypass and should be closed as one, but if it shaves 10 seconds off your travel time, then by all means repave it. You may as well speed through school zones as well, since you know it’s more convenient for you.
