OPINION: Hugs and slugs

Hugs takes the lead ahead of slugs once again this week.

HUGS: To the kind and wonderful citizens of Nelson!

SLUGS: To the Procter resident who thinks it is okay to dump lawn debris and dead shrubs on your neighbour’s property. SHAME ON YOU!

HUGS: To police officers who do the right thing, day in and day out, while facing difficult situations. Your integrity and compassion for the citizens of Nelson are noticed and appreciated. – A grateful citizen

HUGS: To the tree crew out on the Harrop/Procter road. A big hug for stopping traffic in both directions and turning off your chipper in order to allow three horses and their riders to pass by safely.

Hugs: To the lovely woman at the Civic Theatre who lent my kids and I an umbrella so we could brave the rain downpour and get to Ward and Baker to catch our bus! I will be sure to pass your kindness on.–Grateful Mama

HUGS: Huge hugs to the local auto-body shop that has helped me through a couple of “interesting” bumps and bruises on my truck – I know you guys think I drive by braille but honestly I don’t! Thanks so much – you’re the best!

HUGS: Big wraparound hugs to all you crazy drivers out there! Traffic has certainly changed in our fair city … I’ve been almost hit twice in the last week – in crosswalks! Remember, you’re in the Koots … slow down, be patient, and let the next guy go ahead … good deeds encourage good deeds!

HUGS: To the man in the red car that stopped so he wouldn’t hit my dog. I’m glad your five dogs have leashes. Mine does too, and I never walk him without one, but today he sprang out of the house as soon as I opened the door. Didn’t have time to grab him or the leash. Thank you for your concern, though!

HUGS: To all the local and out of town BC firefighters and wildfire management teams who worked on the Duhamel/Sitkum fire. You are a great group of men and women and it has been our pleasure to meet and continue to serve you all in our Nelson restaurant or for take out. Thank you for the work you are doing for our region and province.

HUGS: A huge hug to the tow truck driver who greeted me at my car, shook my hand, introduced himself, and told me he was there “on my journey” and would take good care of me. This tow company has fabulous staff who bend over backwards to help customers. I almost look forward to the next time I get to use their services. – Grateful

SLUGS: A disappointed slug to dog owners in this town who let their dogs act out aggressively. Please restrain your dog so it doesn’t potentially injure mine. When I was finally able to restrain your dog in a way that wouldn’t hurt him, I ended up with a nasty bruise from your dog’s leash. Shame on you for not even apologizing or asking “Are you or your dog okay?”

SLUGS: Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a sofa with torn upholstery, a chair and various other items dumped at the hydro sub-station at Six Mile. If you’re able to take such items there, you should also be able to take them to the transfer station. I guess it would cost you some money, but please do not dump there – it looks a mess. Disappointed that some people are too lazy or cheap to do the right thing.
