Water rates and water supply are a big part of the Vernon political landscape.
I make some effort to understand some of the technical challenges involved and I think overall, the future looks good.
However, I think council has shirked its responsibility to the citizens in regards to user-pay.
The lowly bottom dwellers, such as myself, pay the same cubic metre rate as the nosebleed section up on the highest hill.
It costs considerable electricity to push that much water up that hill.
Many urban centres have variable rate water supply based on elevation and with the advent of electronic meters, the identification of higher elevation properties is a minor matter of mapping.
I challenge council to consider this innovation in order that all of the taxpayers are on a level playing field in regards to water and the costs of supply.
