Happy Canada Day everybody. Today we celebrate our nation’s 144th birthday and Campbell River sure knows how to throw a party.
The Canada Day week has become a signature event in Campbell River and word is getting out that this is the place to be for this special day. Beginning Wednesday with the Transformations on the Shore carving competition and running through the Children’s Festival and Canada Day celebrations downtown and in Willow Point, it all concludes with the Quality Foods Festival of Lights fireworks. In addition we have other associated events like the Home Hardware Beltsander Races and other events like the Dragon Boat races and, after the weekend, the Campbell River leg of the B.C. Bike Race beginning Monday. Is this the place to have a fun week or what?
Add to that the traditional camping and fishing associated with any summer long weekend and you have a community that knows how great it is to be part of this great country. We’ve become a more overtly patriotic people in recent years and it’s about time we sang our own praises – literally, of course. Sure we have problems and challenges to overcome but who would trade difficulties for anyone else’s in the world? Not many, eh?
So celebrate our great country by enjoying our festive weekend and/or head off into the surrounding countryside to enjoy our natural beauty. And remember to take a moment to give thanks for the privilege of living in this great land.
