We also congratulate rookie MP Rachel Blaney.
She brings a new face to North Island politics, returning this riding to its traditional political roots with the NDP. The job won’t be easy for her as her party resumes its traditional place in the Canadian political spectrum – third behind the alternating Liberals and Conservatives.
There must have been brief hope in her camp at the beginning of the campaign that Blaney may have been in government but it was not to be.
While we’re at it, let us all congratulate the unsuccessful North Island-Powell River candidates – Laura Smith (Conservative), Peter Schwarzhoff (Liberal) and Brenda Sayers (Green) – on a civil and heartfelt campaign. Thanks to you for your willingness to stand and serve your region.
