It is always amazing what people can accomplish when they get together and combine their talents and discover their individual goals can serve a mutual purpose.
That occurred this fall when new street-level homelessness action group, Grassroots Kind Hearts (GKH), came into contact with Timberline’s Life Skills program. The Life Skills program teaches students the skills needed to be independent, including cooking. But when you cook stuff, you have to do something with it – presumably eat it or give it to somebody else to eat.
Enter Grassroots Kind Hearts which provides meals for homeless people in Campbell River. The group has exploded onto the community scene this year as a dedicated group of caring individuals that is determined to make sure that nobody starves on the streets of Campbell River.
A short conversation later and the two are working together this Christmas season as the Life Skills students made some meals for GKH to give out. It is anticipated that the combined effort will continue on into the new year. Kudos to both groups for giving of their talents and dedication to a good cause.
