Outdoor rink would benefit downtown

Dear Editor:

Have you seen the outdoor ice rink in Kelowna? It’s always busy with families skating.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to have one here in the town park? It would be a huge draw to get people to come in to town in the winter. Parents could go shopping while the kids skate, they could get hot drinks and snacks from downtown.

It would be a beautiful addition to the Festival of Lights with local figure skaters performing. Imagine it all lit up like a fantasy. In summer the area could be used for a water park or a multitude of other things.

Surely the cost could be easily raised between the town and the chamber, but if not, there could be a small fee to use it until it’s paid for.

Apparently, back when it got cold enough there would be a rink there. It was called Charlie Wharton’s ice rink.
