Owner of Taylor’s Grocery thanks the community

Kim Vogel thanks people in Ladysmith for the conversations and smiles.

On Nov. 1, 2012, I bought a little store on Fourth Avenue and called it Taylor’s Grocery.

I would like to thank all the people I met and especially to my regular customers. Your frequent visits along with the conversation and smiles were highlights of my day.

In the summer of 2013, I became sick and thought it was because of the hours and perhaps not paying attention to my diet. In the fall of 2013, I was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and I closed the store at the end of December.

The store did me and my family well. We made money and spent most of it improving the store. I knew this winter would be lean and was looking forward to spring and summer whereby I would continue to improve the store and maybe take a holiday.

A person can never tell when their time will be up. My advice to you is pay attention to what your body is telling you. In the case of cancer, early detection is the key; in hindsight, I should have noticed, but I worked too much.

Thank you Ladysmith for making my short experience in your town very enjoyable.
