Parking violations should be ticketed

Saanich bylaw prohibits parking a vehicle within 1.5 meters of each side of a driveway entrance

In the Saanich News editorial of July 27 an Edgelow Street resident, Ian Danks, voiced a valid complaint about non-resident parking on both sides of his driveway.

The optimal solution to his problem is Residential Parking Only signs. The decision to place them would have to be approved by Saanich’s engineering department and that might prove difficult to secure. But, Saanich Bylaw #8362 Section 7.10 (b) prohibits parking a vehicle within 1.5 meters (about five feet) of each side of a driveway entrance abutting a street.

Violators can be reported to the bylaw enforcement officer and tickets can be issued. If ticketing doesn’t solve the problem then appropriate signage will follow.
