Just a note to congratulate you for giving the late James K. Nesbitt due recognition for all his dedication, foresight and hard work on behalf of Craigdarroch Castle.
I am very aware of his role with the castle as my mother, the late Dorothy Laundy, worked as his volunteer assistant there through the early years, doing everything from literally sweeping the floors and staircases to escorting visitors around. Years later, after Jimmy’s passing, the castle recognized her contribution by making her honorary chatelaine. It’s interesting that one of the young men hired to work with Jimmy and my mother, Bruce Davies, is now the castle’s curator.
As a young person, I always enjoyed Nesbitt’s historical articles in The Island section of The Colonist. You are doing a great service by chronicling B.C. history, a subject of personal interest as my great grandfather, Bishop Edward Cridge of the Reformed Episcopal Church and the Protestant Orphanage (now the Cridge Centre) was one of the original pioneers of our great province, having arrived as chaplain to the fort in 1855.
