I write to express pity for some local horses. Many land owners reportedly keep horses in order to take advantage of a tax break. In some cases at least, there does not seem to be any other reason, because day after day, month after month, I pass these properties and see those horses standing in practically the same spot, staring into space. Is there no compunction for owners to take their horses out and exercise them regularly?
Is there no pang of guilt over the lack of quality time, or do such owners consider the horse nothing more than a glorified lawn ornament? If so, do the right thing: sell the horse and get a garden gnome.
