Editor, The Record:
This past weekend (Sept. 7-8), I took part in the BC Lung Association’s 29th annual Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath. I rode my bike 200 km over the course of two days to raise money for their very important work promoting lung health and preventing lung disease.
It was a long way to ride and I spent a lot of time on my bike preparing for the event, but I also spent a lot of time fundraising. I canvassed my family, friends, and my students and their families (I’m a local private music teacher), and also hosted a fundraiser evening at the Mission Station Grill, where we had games, a silent auction, a 50/50 draw, raffle prizes, and even a live band.
All of the prizes for the event were donated, and I wanted to take a moment to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all the amazing local businesses who helped support my fundraising efforts. From the larger chain stores to the small independent businesses, you all helped me make a difference, and thanks to all of you and your generosity, to date I have raised almost $1,800 for the BC Lung Association.
In the meantime, please support the local businesses that support us in our endeavours.
If you know someone who has benefitted from the work of the BC Lung Association and would like to donate in their honour, donations can still be made at www.http://bicycletrek2013.kintera.org. Click on “Sponsor a Participant” and you can enter my name, “Jen Lewin,” in the search field.
