Politicians have failed to lead the way on climate change
For 20 years, the Cowichan Carbon Busters have been advocating for action on climate change; yet B.C. politicians have done little. In all that time. So citizens still get 80 per cent of our energy from fossil fuels. A fossil fuel fool’s paradise indeed.
My understanding of the principal reason for this failure to act is that human beings easily persuade themselves that individual actions are not meaningful, and are not going to create collective behavioral changes. In other words, our politicians have failed to be the leaders that they thought they were when they asked for our votes. That being the case, citizens must do the job.
Citizens can rise up and create change. It is not easy, but it is possible. So let’s do it.
