Dear editor,
This letter is about supporting the Royal Canadian Legion and their yearly poppy drive.
“Not in our stores,” was the reply from one of the managers at a local big box store. “We do not want the responsibility of having the money boxes in our stores.”
I wonder what our beloved Canada would look like today if our troops had taken this stance.
The millions of dollars raised each year through our poppy campaign go to support the life and limbs of the serving and retired veterans and their families. The poppies are distributed freely and I know that the Royal Canadian Legion truly appreciates the generous donations given through the poppy campaign. It makes a huge difference in the lives of our troops and their families.
These same stores do allow our cadets to set up outside the doors of the stores with poppy boxes, and I for one appreciate that.
I have been an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for a few decades and I pen this letter as a concerned Canadian citizen. I am not in any way authorized to speak on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion.
