Because of the court decision, there is a lot of talk at the moment about the death of Don Cain, and that “the laws need to be changed.”
I would like to offer what I would like to see changed:
In every location where traffic flaggers are working, a maximum speed needs to be posted. The sign telling me to go “slow” tells me exactly nothing. Just last week, a lady flagger kept moving her sign as if I was going too fast. I stopped and asked her “How slow is slow?”
“30 km per hour!” she said.
I can live with that; however, I was going about 22 km/h at the time!
I believe that a posted maximum speed as is done in some construction zones even now, and very often that is 50 km/h, not 30 km/h, combined with stiff fines for violations, will help to resolve at least part of the problem.
