President’s report from Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce

It has been a busy month of November. We wrapped up another successful Pumpkin walk...

I have accepted the role of President for the 2017 year; thank you for your support over the last 18 months and I look forward to serving you for another year.

It has been a busy month of November. We wrapped up another successful Pumpkin walk, thank you to all the businesses and individuals who contributed to the success of this event. We followed that up with a business planning meeting where we put in place our objectives for the New Year as well as our committee heads.

Thank you to the directors who have so graciously let their name stand on the following committees and roles:

Graham Stanley – Vice President

Lonny Wiebe – Treasurer

Don Weaver – Renewable Resources

Phil Bayliss – Real Estate

Brian Williamson – Social Well-Being

Chip Purdey – Events Committee

Shortly after this meeting, Spencer left us at which time we have asked Chelsay Christian to step in on an interim basis.

I then met with Mayor Thiessen, councillor Carpenter as well as District CAO Tom Clement at which time they informed me, the District no longer have an interest in giving the Chamber funding to run the Visitor centre but rather they would do a better job running it on their own.

We followed that meeting up with a budget meeting where we made the decision, effective on Jan. 1, that the Chamber Manager position would become a part time position and we would be looking for a different office space.

We also are presenting to the board tonight to increase membership fees to help with the operation of the Chamber. The Chamber’s role will continue to be a strong advocacy group for the membership. The Midnight Madness event was very successful again and well attended.

On Dec. 8 we hosted another successful Christmas gathering hosted by Rio Tinto and very well attended, thank you to all.

In closing I would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
