Pruning of maple limbs should solve issue

I don’t understand the “limb failure” of the maple on James Street.

I don’t understand the “limb failure” of the maple on James Street.

That tree should have had the limbs cut down in length or right off several years ago. Leave the main trunk standing and trim the resulting branches every two to three years.

With no large limbs left there is then no need to talk about limb failure. Yes, the tree is near the end of its lifetime. That does not mean it couldn’t stand safely for a few more years. If the stem is dangerous on its own, why has it been left until now?
