Abbotsford’s mayor and council should be ashamed of themselves.
While suckling at the hind teat of city largesse, and knowing full well that incumbents usually are re-elected by an uninformed electorate, they hide behind the facade of implementing their outrageous salary increases after the next election in November.
The procedure where council, a faceless bureaucracy and an “independent” consultant can conspire together without the input of the beleaguered taxpayers is flawed to say the least.
If they feel so strongly that their incompetence deserves more remuneration, they should be happy to put the question to the voters in the form of a referendum in November.
The inevitable higher voter turnout to address this question would, in and of itself be worth the effort.
