Racism against Cowichan Tribes ‘unspeakable’

At a recent meeting of our executive we expressed our condemnation of the nastiness on social media directed at the Cowichan Tribes First Nations’ people being illustrated in derogatory terms regarding COVID-19 cases in the community.

It is unspeakable. Racism. Those people sharing hateful messages in the media are being like the insensitive and moronic behaviour of, O.K. I won’t mention his name.

People are ill in our community and we should be caring and kind. We are all vulnerable to this pandemic. It is not selective and it will not go away any time soon. As in a war we can be victims. We need help and loving care. As they say in Scotland “We’re all Jock Tamson’s bairns”, meaning we are all connected and compassionate. Let us not forget everyone around us. We are all together in this.

Stay safe, keep well and be kind.

P.S. The Ministry of Health should be publishing where the new cases are in the province not just lumping figures together as they are doing — be more transparent.
