Rail line needs forward thinking

More cars is not the answer

To those who oppose repairing our rail line on Vancouver Island, let’s start forward thinking on the issue.

The way of the future is not to put more cars on the road.

Rather, offering a user-friendly rail schedule while travelling at higher than current speeds might encourage more people to get out of their cars.

There are a vast number of reasons for this, not least of which include an aging population, the high price of gasoline and a host of environmental concerns.

Have you looked at the cost of building and maintaining roads along with the safety factor?

Perhaps we should follow Europe’s lead.
