I attended the Okanagan Rail Trail information open house in Coldstream. It was informative and interesting.
Someone questioned parking for horse trailers. In my opinion the rail trail should be for bikers – children and adults, x-country skiers, pedestrians-walkers, joggers, runners, with wheelchairs, with strollers, with dogs (and owners who diligently pick up after their dog).
There are so many other places that horses can go that many people cannot go, so keep the trail for pedestrians. If dog poop has to be picked up – who would pick up after their horses? Soon the trail could become like walking in a horse corral. I don’t want to see that happen.
Also I hope motorized vehicles will be forbidden. Although I could see golf carts being used to transport elderly and physically challenged folks who would like to be taken for a lovely outing on the trail. This would be for a fee and with very restricted speed.
If they are allowed in airports with crowded pedestrian walkways, we could certainly allow them for the benefit of elderly and handicapped, couldn’t we?
