Railing on relocation

Local, provincial and federal governments should work together to fund changes to railway lines in South Surrey and White Rock.

Re: Support sought for rail relocation study (The Leader, Aug. 17).

It is crystal clear that if jointly funded, money spent over rail relocation on the Semiahmoo Peninsula will be a smaller burden on any single government.

Meanwhile, White Rock MLA Gordon Hogg is moving assertively to bring together all provincial, federal and municipal representatives so needed funds can be obtained jointly on the rail relocation issue.

If everything goes well, according to his plan, there is more likelihood of a swift response at the federal level.

The Manitoba government has been working towards similar rail relocation projects. If Manitoba succeeds in seeking federal support, British Columbia should not be denied.

British Columbia is a renowned tourism destination and can take advantage of a rail relocation.

BC Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone should raise a strong voice to Ottawa and convince federal government to support a rail relocation study.

I hope a feasibility study turn into reality.
