The warmth and generosity of our community shone brightly despite wet and windy conditions on Friday, Nov. 6.
Oceanside marked a first by participating in the annual national celebration known as Random Act of Kindness Day. This movement engages people in small acts of kindness and generosity and it came as a welcome surprise to those on the receiving end.
On behalf of the Parksville-Qualicum Community Foundation, I want to thank the many area businesses who supported the day through donations of gift cards and getting their employees on board. A special note of thanks to Qualicum Beach Elementary School students who hand-coloured greeting cards for people they had never met, and to KSS students who delivered them to residents at Qualicum Manor and the Gardens. More than a dozen KSS students volunteered to greet people in the community, surprise them with a gift card for free coffee and hand out cards encouraging others to perform a simple act of kindness.
This movement has been gaining momentum and bringing communities together across Canada since 2008. Random acts of kindness are a wonderful way to touch the lives of others in a positive way.
