(Answering Wilf Miller’s letter of Jan.15)

At last the mystery of the dilemma of ninety -nine cents has been voiced.

If one lived during the Great Depression, one knows the dime had value. Nine cents was a common price for many things. I can remember being delighted to get some of the finest heavy cotton flannel for just nine cents a yard to make diapers that lasted for the next two babies.

After that, there was $4.99 shoes, assorted cloths, kitchen items, etc, up to line to what you see today.

Does anyone know what a “nappy” was and all the unpleasantness that went with them? (diaper).

Cheer up, Will, maybe we have seen the best days. I am also in my 90’s and a five generation “granny.”

Give old people some dignity.

Give them a pension of $2,500 a month.

Many other things you say – kudos for you.
