Re: On their own (News Views, Nov. 20).
Thank you for your editorial and explaining why amalgamation of Pitt Meadows with Maple Ridge is not a good thing.
The amount saved – if any – won’t make up for the loss of a local perspective.
The Maple Ridge councillors will always out-number those for Pitt Meadows and on sharing a budget, or who is going to get any priorities over Maple Ridge.
Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge divorced a long time ago and I don’t think re-marriage is the answer to any problems.
I feel sorry that Maple Ridge wants to dissolve the joint parks agreement ‘without any consultation, especially when Pitt Meadows paid 20 per cent and Maple Ridge 80 per cent.
It was good for Pitt Meadows, but I’m sure we will find a way to have and manage our own.
If there was no consultation over the joint parks agreement, imagine how Pitt Meadows would be treated as a joint municipality – a sign of the future if we amalgamated.
