Remembrance scheduled finalized

Quesnel Legion ready to celebrate Remembrance Day on Nov. 11

Hello my faithful readers – it is nice to have you back again.

I have a lot to say this week – I know it seems like I always do – but Wanda, our Legion manager has asked me to bring everyone up to date on the Remembrance Day Ceremonies.

This is going to  be a wonderful experience you will not want to miss.

It is the one time throughout a whole 365 day year that we get to truly honour our beloved veterans with a complete day of celebration. So lets’ get at it.

10:30 Parade forms up outside in front of the Legion

10:35  March on the colours – front of the parade

10:49  Parade marches

10:56  Parade arrives at the cenotaph – colour party marches onto cenotaph and the bugler and duty piper take their post

10:57  O Canada is sung by everyone

10:58  Last Post

11:00  1 Bell (United Church) followed by 2 minutes of silence

11:02  1 Bell (United Church) followed by the Lament played by the piper

11:04  Reveille – and the raising of the flags

11:05 Act of Remembrance by  the Legion President

11:06  21 Bells (United Church bells) and parade stands at ease

11:08  Laying of Wreaths – Benediction and blessing done by the Legion Padre

12:00 – 1 p.m. – Church Service in the Hall

1 p.m.     Lounge opens to members and their guests  – the lounge will remain closed until the Church service has ended

Once in the lounge there are further festivities. Save on Foods manager Neil and his staff volunteers will donate their time and expertise to cook and then serve a luncheon of beef dip, with veggies and dessert.

All of these provisions have been provided to us free of charge, as Jim Pattison, owner of Save on Foods is a true believer in supporting the Legion.

We thank him and his loyal staff for all they are doing for Branch 94.

2 p.m.  piano player with a sing-along with the Sweet Harmony singers

4 p.m.  Rum Parade with the Quesnel Pipe and Drums leading the veterans in for their dinner.

This dinner is open to all veterans and only spouses who are veterans themselves are allowed to attend.

The delicious dinner is provided by the Ladies Auxiliary with all the trimmings.

OK, I know this is quite lengthy, but I do need to tell you the Seniors’ Information Day sponsored by the Senior Advocacy Service that I had mentioned last week and was scheduled for Oct. 25 had to be cancelled. Sorry if this inconvenienced anyone.

Hopefully it will be re-scheduled for a later date.

Also, to remind you all of the Skareaoke Halloween Party, Oct. 28 in the lounge, 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.

There are costume prizes and admission is still only $5 at the door.  Stop in and have some fun.

And, Nov. 5 in the hall the Old Time Fiddlers are holding their monthly dance.

Admission to this fine event is $10 at the door, 8 p.m. – 12 a.m.

One last thing – if you have not gotten your tickets for Night to Remember – last I checked there were a few left, so hurry in so you will not be disappointed.

Remember you can also sponsor a veteran who is unable to afford to attend this event, by buying a ticket and setting it aside.

We have six worthy veterans and to date, only one sponsored ticket has been sold.

Tickets are $30 and I am sure whoever you sponsor will be very thankful.

Until next week – speak softly.

Sharon MacDonald is a Legion member.
