Editor: Just like a person who has to look at a car crash, I found myself having to see the level of response at the rally calling Mayor Rick Green’s resignation on July15, held outside the Township municipal building. Not that I was surprised, but a quick count revealed eight people attended, including the two main organizers. I won’t name them as they don’t deserve to see their names in print.
I found it almost humourous to hear one of the organizers saying “the reason for the low turnout was people were intimidated to be seen on camera.” Since when have the people of the Greater Vancouver area ever been intimidated from protesting against anything they are passionate about?
The message is loud and clear. The few politically-motivated people who are hell-bent on discrediting the mayor should accept that there is no support for their cause. There is no movement to have the mayor resign and the complete lack of interest in this rally convinces me that Mayor Green has the public’s confidence.
Continuing to drag the mayor’s name through the mud is now going beyond political activism and entering defamation of character terrritory.
We are only four months from the municipal election. I am sure the people of Langley will show how they feel about Mayor Green and the rest of council on Nov. 19.
