Roses and Rotten Tomatoes (Jan. 5, 2017 edition)

A weekly collection of compliments and complaints sent in by readers

Roses

  • Roses to a gentleman who helped me get my car out of ditch late at night near the intersection of Highway 17 and Bridgeview Drive. I did not know that there was black ice on the road and my mini van spun into the ditch. He pulled over and asked me if he could help. He was very experienced and got my car out of the snow-packed ditch. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to this gentleman. ( I am sorry that I didn’t get your name.)
  • Many, many belated roses to all the people who helped me when I fell off my roof on Oct 1: The worker next door who came over and stayed until the first responders took me away, then returned afterward and finished fixing my roof for me; The first responders who arrived within five minutes, took great care of me and got me to the hospital quickly; The Surrey hospital ER staff who got the X-rays and cat scans done so quickly to determine my injuries; All of the ER Acute Care staff who took such great care of me; To “NAV” the incredible acute care nurse who took such amazing care of me all night when I had heart complications. You are a wonderful human being and an absolute credit and a treasure to the medical profession. You cared for me with such great skill, expertise and genuine compassion. May God bless you richly in 2017 as you bless and help so many others.
  • A box car full of red roses to our thoughtful, anonymous neighbours who snow-plowed our very long driveway.  We are seniors in the Clayton area.  We sincerely appreciate their kindness.

Rotten Tomatoes

  • Rotten tomatoes to the City of Surrey and Mayor Hepner for not reducing crime in Surrey. Don’t believe their phoney spin on crime in Surrey. I think last year has to be the worst it has ever been – at least in my neighbourhood.
  • A truck load of rotten tomatoes to the ultimate super cheap gas stations that couldn’t put windshield de-icer in the windshield wash containers during our cold snap – cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap.
  • A dump truck load of rotten tomatoes to Fortis BC for raising natural gas prices by 80 per cent.
  • Rotten tomatoes to our politicians in B.C. Raise taxes, raise ICBC rates, raise BC Hydro, raise MSP, and let zillions more people in this country. Our schools, medical system, roadways – everything is bursting at the seams.
  • Rotten tomatoes to the person complaining that the City of Surrey did not clear park pathways.  Well, they didn’t even clean our street, which is a two-block dead end because they don’t bother with dead ends – and you’re complaining about parks.
  • A large dump truck full of rotten tomatoes to the City of Surrey for not cleaning the icy streets. You people are very disorganized. Thanks for nothing.
  • Rotten tomatoes to all the people, businesses, Surrey school district and City of Surrey for the lack of shovelling, salting and clearing of sidewalks in and around Surrey Central. Many sidewalks are treacherous, scary sheets of ice. Shame on you.
