Roses and Rotten Tomatoes (June 30, 2017)

Our weekly collection of compliments and complaints sent in by readers.

  • A big bouquet of pink roses to the sweet young couple who quickly assisted me when I fell on the escalator at New West SkyTrain station. They helped gather up my groceries and saw me safely to the platform. There are angels among us.
  • Rotten tomatoes to driving school instructors who take their students out during rush hour, creating chaos and frustration for commuters.
  • A forest of red roses to the Historical Society of Surrey for advocating for the importance of “natural” history in Surrey. A land owner in my neighbourhood illegally cut down trees from his lot, demolished the home, built a large home and now has paved the front and back yard. Where is the enforcement of bylaws in Surrey?
  • Rotten stinky tomatoes to all of the trolls out there! Get your head out of your rear ends (or your parents’ basements) and be kinder to people. We all have our opinions, but there are kinder ways to say yours.
  • Fragrant baskets of roses to all of the people who live in spectacular Surrey on the 150th birthday of Canada! We inhabit what I think is the best place in all of Canada. Enjoy and appreciate all that we have here.
  • A barrel of rotten tomatoes to the guy who stole my purse from the McDonalds on King George and 72nd Avenue. We know your name and have surveillance of you.
  • Rotten tomatoes to dog owners who think it’s OK to hit a dog when disciplining it. How sick and twisted are you people? Think twice before doing such a terrible thing!
  • Rotten tomatoes to a Cloverdale neighbour. What you fail to understand is the real issue at hand. Kids playing outside is OK. Kids playing basketball and screaming outside at 7 a.m. is not OK. You do not have the right to disrupt other people’s sleep and lives because you are up early. Don’t worry, the bylaw officers will keep showing up until you get it.
