School calendar

To the Vernon School District, what is the amount of instruction time being offered to the students in our district?

If you have ever had to resolve an issue with our school district, you probably know how hard, frustrating and sometimes impossible it can be to get our school district to respond to even a simple question.

I am hoping the district will respond to a question asked publicly.

To the Vernon School District, what is the amount of instruction time being offered to the students in our district?

I am asking this question for several reasons.

The schools are required to make this information public on the school calendar so I am not asking for anything that the district is not required to provide.

Second, when I run the calculation on the district calendar, it shows the district does not provide the ministry-required minimum instruction time for elementary students.

Now I admit that I may not be doing my calculation correctly.

That is why I want the district to provide an official number.

Third, my calculation on the high school calendar shows the district close to the ministry-required minimum instruction time.

So close that things like collaboration days, and completion days have to be counted as instruction time.

Those programs have so little instructional value. It seems like a big stretch to count them as instruction time.

Lastly, the 2015/16 proposed school calendars appear to have the same kind of problems.
