Search unit pays tribute to Nicol

Vernon Search and Rescue would like to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Patrick Nicol.

Patrick was a long-time supporter of Vernon Search and Rescue.  We take for granted our communication system as it is today, but it was not always so.  Vernon Search and Rescue used to carry pocket transistor radios. Our members would tune into CJIB Radio and communicate, by the on-air DJ, messages to our members in the field. Patrick was part of that communication system.

Patrick understood the dedication and effort that Vernon Search and Rescue members put in to support our community.

He was always so positive and supportive of the volunteers.  An example of his support was a donation that he gave to Vernon Search and Rescue to aid us in providing a Christmas banquet for our members and their family to enjoy.

As the chairperson of the Regional District of the North Okanagan, Patrick went out of his way to stay in touch with the group, inquiring of our well-being, with the constant offer to support us if needed.

He was always so kind and so generous, a true gentleman to the end of his days.

Patrick was a close personal friend with many of our members and we all mourn his passing.
