Seniors’ Light Tour set for Dec. 14

Seniors' advocate discusses the every-shrinking Christmas card list

Only a short column for now. Our days are short so there’s not much time to read anyway.

Just wanted to clear up a bit of confusion regarding the senior’s Tour of Lights. This year there will only be one tour on Dec. 14. Buses will be provided by Gary Inwood of Gold Pan City Stage Lines Ltd. Leaving the Quesnel and District Seniors Centre at 461 Carson Avenue at 6 pm. Life Line will be providing refreshments in the hall and taking care of arrangements. Sign up sheets are posted in both the Golden Centre and Seniors Centre to reserve a seat on the bus.

This has been a highlight of the season and a real pleasure to those who do not have the opportunity to ordinarily get out and about. And kudos to householders for turning on their lights and really making our city come alive. For those that may have a difficult time getting down to the centre for the Tour of Lights, indicate you may need a ride when you sign in and I’m sure this will be looked after.

Christmas Card list

It saddens me when I recall the people on my list that have passed each year but special contacts made throughout the year take their place to some extent. The ebb and flow of life. It’s great that even very busy people take the time to contact one another especially at this time of the year. It might just be the boost that someone needs when they are facing a very difficult hurdle in their lives.

Persons with disabilities

Dec. 3 was designated by the United Nations as International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The theme for this year was Together for a better world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development. No scheduled events have been arranged at this time through Community Living BC here that I am aware of but many of us know people with disabilities. Perhaps we could spend time or do something special for someone with a disability, not just on Dec. 3, but whenever we get a chance.
