There is a serious injustice in the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). With all the talk about increasing the CPP benefits in a few years to the detriment of the small business owner and the self-employed, the federal government will continue to favour women over men when it comes to monthly benefits.
Although women and men with similar incomes contribute the same premium over the years, women receive a much higher benefit at retirement.
Men and women are not equal. It is a well established biological fact that women live on average five to six years longer than men. Therefore, insurance companies do provide a higher monthly life-annuity payout for men.
The federal government should stop unfairly discriminating against men when it makes the upcoming changes to the CPP.
