Dear Editor
I have written letters to the editor in the past to point out the injustice of removing snow from Lake Cowichan sidewalks put on those tax payers who have sidewalks.
Since sidewalks, in most cases, are only on one side of the road it is unfair to put the onus to clear these sidewalks only on some of the property owners. But I think the real travesty is that some property owners have heart conditions — I for one — that could lead to their deaths if they had to clear sidewalks. It is easy to say that they can hire someone to do the work for them, if they can find and afford to have the town’s work done for them.
It is my opinion that if the snow removal bylaw of this town leads to a death of any person forced to clean the towns sidewalks, that the past and the present council be held responsible.
I think that if they fail to remove this bylaw, they are in fact admitting that they do not care about the health and well being of the seniors who reside in Lake Cowichan.
