I have lived in the Vernon area for 10 years and for the most part, I am very happy here.
I have, on the other hand, one major pet peeve.
I have a handicap pass which I take advantage of only when my legs aren’t co-operating and there are a few spots available.
Every winter when there is snow on the ground, able-bodied drivers seem to forget where these spots are. Maybe the cold weather affects their memory and they don’t display their pass. Most of these drivers are in their 20s and 30s and are probably too busy to walk the extra few steps.
I appeal to the general public to please show respect for the handicapped, most are seniors, and give them their parking space.
It would also be very nice if the merchants would erect vertical signs so every driver would be reminded that they might be occupying a spot meant for the handicapped.
I have on many occasions driven on to another shopping location or mall when I see that my spot has been taken by a vehicle not displaying a handicap permit.
