One frequently hears the phrase “the silent majority.” It is often claimed that such-and-such a policy or rule reflects the wishes of this silent majority, but let’s think about this for a moment. How can anything represent the wishes of those who are silent? How does anyone know what those wishes are? Through clairvoyance?
Surely, there is only one way that those wishes can be considered, and that is by hearing them. In other words, the “majority” must become un-silent. They must come out and be heard.
We all have this opportunity now to come out and be heard. We have an election at hand. Be a part of it. We must participate, in order that the process can be called democracy.
Also, on those occasions when the majority opinion does not reflect your opinion, please accept the result. To label the decision, or the process that brought it about, as “flawed” sounds too much like the pouting reaction of the spoiled child that did not get their own way.
