Dear editor,
We oppose the site on Cliffe Avenue in downtown Courtenay as the site for a homeless emergency shelter.
The site’s proximity to the BC Liquor Store, the Tyee Marine Store, which sells guns and ammunition, the CIBC bank, which will be a likely site for nuisance panhandling, Shoppers Drug Mart, and the Dairy Queen, which would be a likely place for a daily hangout all make the site inappropriate.
Also, since the site proposed is on the busy, traffic-heavy main road into Courtenay, there would be obvious danger to the homeless congesting in this area. There are many other more suitable places for such a facility.
Sally and Det Kunz,
Courtenay
