Dear Editor,
Since May 1, I have been observing a dangerous situation near the front of my business, Heather’s Canvas Cup, as well as Azalea’s Flower Shop and other storefronts on lower Argyle Street.
One hears a short, shrill whistle just before one catches a glimpse of a long boarder whizzing past the front door of our coffee house—on the sidewalk!
The situation is going to result in serious injury to either a pedestrian going to and from their car onto the sidewalk in front of the businesses, or a tourist who is ambling along enjoying the beautiful scenery of the area. With the speed and weight of a long boarder’s body and equipment, it could be heavy enough to seriously injure or kill a person.
With the RCMP Community Policing station situated on lower Argyle Street (at Harbour Quay), I feel that the police could be monitoring this situation. However, the boarders appear so quickly that it is difficult to be able to call and report.
The situation is going to become worse as school is closed for the summer, and there will likely be more boarders in our area.
Heather Mallory,
Heather’s
Canvas Cup,
Port Alberni
