This is to all of you drivers who think that Silver Star Road is your own personal speedway. Guess what? It isn’t. There are signs posted saying the speed limit is 50 kilometres an hour close to BX Elementary. Wonder why? Because this is a residential neighborhood with a great number of children. So when you go racing up the road doing 70 to 100 kilometres an hour, you are not only endangering your life, but many others as well.
A lot of these kids walk on the side of the road to get to and from school. “School’s out right now, well then I don’t have to slow down.” Wrong.
There are people who live in those homes that you go racing past who don’t want to hear your loud vehicle and yes I am one of them.
I regret moving into this area simply because of the traffic noise. All day long, I hear motorbikes, loud stereos and vehicles exceeding the posted speed limits because the rules of the road don’t apply to them.
Guess what? The rules apply to everyone.
People live in those homes that you go ripping past — people who have to may have to get up early the next morning to go to work and families with small children who get woken up regularly by the noise — and they don’t even live next to the road. They live several houses away. Why don’t you start obeying the traffic signs people? They are there for your safety as well as mine.
I hope you all read this letter, but I know that is doubtful. My question is, how did you pass your driver’s test if you can’t read the speed limit sign?
Recently, my nephew came for a short visit with us from Vancouver. Even he commented on the road noise and he slept in the basement bedroom.
To those who do slow down, you have my heartfelt thanks.
For those of you who don’t, here is a great big raspberry.
