Your opinion in the June 19, issue concerning genetically modifying food, specifically apples, is the worst, most ignorant column you have published in the Capital News in the past decade. (Monster Apples Create Concern, June 19 Capital News.)
Where is your research, what happened to honest journalism?
To compare grafting to genetically altering food (GMO: adding or replacing genes of spiders, mammals, etc. into our plants/food) is like comparing oranges to atomic bombs. Where is your research? The majority of GMO seeds are also terminator seeds linked with declining sperm counts in humans, birds, insects, reptiles and animals.
GMO terminator seeds are also patented for profit.
Where is your story of the thousands of farmers in India who have committed suicide directly related to their loss of land through growing GMO crops. www.thrivemovement see Agr/Food link.
Italy is mostly a GMO-free zone. I help source food and super food from countries in non-GMO zones—there are now non-GMO zones in India as well as many European, South American and Asian countries.
It is embarrassing you are promoting something as destructive to your Okanagan readers’ economy, health and reproduction as GMO.
Why not do your journalistic research, find the facts, then perhaps help the Okanagan to become a GMO-free zone.
