The installation of smart meters across the province is nearing completion and over 1.7 million new meters have been installed with few problems.
The installation of the communications network that enables the new meters is also nearing completion and over the next 12 months, our customers will see more benefits from a modernized grid.
For example, customers will be able to start tracking their energy use through their secure online BC Hydro account next spring. This new tool will help customers conserve energy and save money.
Smart meters are now a part of BC Hydro’s standard equipment, just like utility poles and power lines.
We’re continuing to work with customers to answer their questions and ensure they have the facts about the program.
The new meters will get the lights back on faster and safer during power outages, provide you with tools to conserve energy and save money, reduce wasted electricity and keep your rates amongst the lowest in North America.
