I read, with some surprise, the letter printed in your paper authored by the nomination candidate for the Conservative Party in the upcoming federal election.
I was a bit taken aback by his lack of knowledge and understanding on the topic of oil subsidies, and the immediacy of need for a complete and comprehensive response to carbon emissions as a major factor in climate change.
Then, thank goodness, he clarified things by stating that he was seeking information with respect to oil subsidies, and I presume, those other matters that seem to have escaped his research capabilities.
I have good news to share.
The information he seeks has been gathered, annotated, assimilated and interpreted by a B.C. researcher of international renown. She’s published a book on the subject that has been universally acclaimed.
Her name is Naomi Klein, the book is This Changes Everything.
She’s been known to spend time in this part of the country, and I’m sure she’d be willing to inform the candidate on the issue. She’s already had some time with the Pope.
In the meantime, he could read the book, or the Pope’s encyclical On Care for our Common Home. Everyone should.
Thank you for giving me the space to help inform the candidate.
