As someone who came here from an Alberta city with lots of photo radar in all of its forms (regular speeding, speed-on-green, red light cams), let me assure this reader that photo radar will not solve their perceived speeding problems.

Where I used to live, the photo radar program is insanely expensive to run, costing as much as several police officers and much of its supposed tax revenue. It is an enormous cash grab, usually ticketing people going 62 in a 50-kilometre-an-hour zone, and getting the bulk of its revenue from that, not from someone going 20 to 30 kilometres over. Most importantly of all, there’s no provable results.

People still sped lots. Worse, a fine without demerits is a licence to speed for people who are so wealthy $150 to $300 doesn’t even register with them.

Say no to photo radar.
