An open letter to Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Kevin Falcon.
I apologize for writing you on this matter, however as it concerns your constituency, I thought that you may like to make a call to the RCMP in the interest of public safety.
There is a growing problem in South Surrey, especially along secondary roads, such as 8 Avenue east from Highway 99 and east from 176 Street, as well as along 32 Avenue east of 152 Street to 192 Street, and on 176 Street from the border to Highway 1. Likewise a similar problem exists on 184 Street through the school zone just north of 24 avenue, among many others.
These are serious areas where motorists are not only ignoring posted speed limits, but many travel these routes at almost double the posted limits.
When police are contacted by the public, their response is that they just don’t have the manpower to deal with traffic complaints unless the public supplies them with the full details of each offender observed. This isn’t the public’s job, this is why we pay for police.
Several of these areas have school zones, where not only children are at risk but parents dropping off or collecting their young ones.
There have already been a number of serious incidents on a number of routes in South Surrey, ranging from minor incidents to very serious collisions, and still police will not conduct radar patrols, citing a lack of manpower.
Your kind input on this growing problem would possibly add the voice needed to get the RCMP to take matters more seriously.
