Stickle process defended

Resident stands behind the Ministry of Transportation

Over the last number of months, I’ve read many letters regarding Stickle Road — many against and some for the proposal.

Some have said that our elected officials, local and provincial, have changed their tune after meetings with the ministry.

There has also been comments like, “They’re not listening to us. We the people elected them and they are not doing what we want ( installing lights at the intersection).” It’s kind of like, “If you don’t play the way I want, then I won’t be part of your team any more. I voted for you and I can vote for the other guy the next time around.”

Many of these folks seem to have the idea that they know better. Well, I don’t know better. I don’t know much about traffic patterns or road building. But I’m pretty sure that the people who are in charge of such things are not idiots.

I’m also pretty sure that they have mountains of research and data available to them collected over many years, encompassing many situations like this. I understand the anger and frustration over losing the wetlands, wildlife habitat and walking trails. It is a loss to be sure but the folks in charge of road design and building are not, believe it or not, out to make your life miserable.

Don’t take it personally. They’re just doing their jobs to try to make the roads as safe as possible for us — you and I, the general public.
