Stickle Road

Resident raises concerns about the plans for the highway intersection

I have chimed in on this before, but the question about a light/no light at Stickle Road will seemingly not go away.

There is an old adage about thorny problems: “follow the money.” The question has to be, who is going to benefit by this lunatic solution of a road through a valued and hopefully protected wet land environment?

The statement about slowing traffic is a non-starter.  Drivers expect to be slowed in congested areas, and often lights are installed before the area becomes truly congested because everyone knows that it will soon be so.

If the penny-wise government we have today is determined to spend $10 million in the area instead of the projected $500,000 for a light at Stickle Road, perhaps they would consider doing something about the serious bottleneck at 43rd Avenue southbound, and put in a right turn lane at Vernon Square.

On a summer day, it takes an average of three cycles of the light to get through, even though many people choose to turn right into the mall and drive through without stopping to shop.

If our penny-wise government of today insists on having their way, perhaps they will be the government of yesterday, at least in this area, after the next election.
