Jo Jones nailed it. The highway roundabouts we use in Australia are double-lane and work extremely well.
On their busy times, the light-controlled intersections are backed up half-a-kilometre while the roundabouts are only a couple blocks maximum.
It seems like all of the new highway work I see there incorporates roundabouts and I’ve never seen an accident in one.
Let’s try one out.
