Study not needed; use money for other things

My insightful recent letter about excessive studies/improvident spending/modest results has got me a lot of contact. Included was contact with the chair of the CVRD who had somehow not seen the letter but confirmed he had to spend $150,000 on some “expert” from out of town to meet the requirements of the program set by Victoria.

So some person will come to town, talk to a few people, take some pictures, photocopy some charts and produce a 78 page “potential” award winning report which will not build one affordable home. Just like the $300,000 Climate Action Plan and its impact on climate change.

Can’t we give $10,000 to Cowichan Housing to do the same? They were given $750,000 per year to administer for affordable housing and have determined a project in Ladysmith is “good”.

Would not the CVRD/province have higher priorities for their money now than this study? It would be a real fiscal feather in the CVRD’s hat to email Carole James and say do not borrow any money for this study. Spend it on Dr. Bonnie Henry/Adrian Dix.

The same applies to several other studies presently underway by local goverments.
