To the editor:
I emailed a friend of mine in the Lower Mainland shortly after the final Canucks game and asked, “Can you believe the rioting in Vancouver? Is that supposed to make the Canucks players feel any better about the loss?”
He replied: “It’s stupid and embarrassing!”
And you know, he is absolutely right. With the eyes of the world on Vancouver once again, this is the way we are going to be remembered – as a bunch of sore losers!
I can just imagine what would have happened if Canada had lost the gold medal game in the Olympics.
Is this really how we want to be remembered by the very people we rely on to bring tourist dollars to our province? I, for one, certainly hope not.
I truly hope the majority of Canucks fans, although discouraged and frustrated by the defeat, would have the decency to take the loss graciously and look forward to next season.
The mob mentality does not reflect the feelings of most of us. At least that is what I hope.
